Tudo Bem.
So here we meet again! Another week down and gone just like that. This week was just amazing and full of great things. First of all, I know that the Priesthood is real. As I said last week that I was sick. Yeah, I was pretty sick. I woke up monday early just super sick. Wanting to throw up, pain everywhere in the body, headache, and a fever... I stayed like that the whole day sick in bed. Writing emails was horrible. It was just super crummy. The family night we had last week was full of food but I didn´t eat anything and the members were all telling me to go to the hospital (brasilians will go to the hospital for paper cuts) and I was only going to go if I was truly dying. But right after the family night I told Elder Medina to cure me and him and Elder Groom gave me a blessing. The moment he said amen all the pain and sickness went away and I was perfectly fine. It was a miracle and I know the Priesthood we have in the church is the same priesthood christ used to cure people and cast away devils. So thats a cool testimony builder from this week.
But! Tuesday we woke up and we were ready to go to work. We had our district meetings tuesday morning and I went to another districts meeting to help them and see how they were doing. This week as a zone we focused on marking baptismal dates with our investigators. We have really seen lots of miracles happening.
So Thursday night we had an activity in the church that we did and it didn´t go as exactly planned... We planned to watch meet the mormons with members and investigators starting at 7pm but it ended up starting at 8:30 because of technical issues... Luckily not many investigators went so we weren´t extremely embarrased... ha. But it did turn out okay.
So to just tell about some of our investigators. We have two young men that were baptized recently and we are working A LOT with there family but the thing is is that most of them aren´t home during the day so we go there in the afternoon and teach a few of them and then go back at night and teach another group of the same family! Its pretty crazy. But the first girl we are teaching is like 18 and her name is Maryana and is basically adopted into this family. She has never cared about religion or anything but she went to the baptism of her brother and has become really interested. We started teaching her and she started to zone out and we asked her if she wants to see her parents again (because they died when she was young) and then she just perked up and listened intently as we teached the plan of salvation. She has now been reading the book of mormon everyday and that alone is a miracle as well because she doesn´t like reading or studying anything! We are working towards baptism with her.
The next is Lueni. She is the other sister in this family and she is 16. We taught her and marked a baptismal date with her for the 22 of this month. She is great.
The best is the mother of the family, Eloisa. She is super receptive and has been going to church for while now. She is ready for baptism but we marked a baptismal date for her for the 22nd as well because we know she will help her daughters get ready. So it has been amazing to work with this family.
We also found a new investigator that lives behind there house as we were leaving one day. She moved in this week and of course the missionaries offered to help her take stuff in and she asked ``who are you guys anyways´´ and we ended up talking for while with her about the church. When we went back this week we taught her and she said she wants to be baptized, we were like ´´alrighty! for sure we will help you.´´ She has lots of potential as well but has some problems with the word of wisdom, so we will work a lot with her and get her ready for baptism as well.
So we also saw lots of miracles this week as Elder Medina and I were able to achieve a goal of the mission that is super hard to get. You have to have lots of lessons with members, new investigators, baptismal dates, and people in the church. And yesterday we working working to accomplish our goal and usually it is impossible to work on sundays here because everyone is in the bar or houses of family. But Heavenly Father blessed us greatly and placed people in our path and we achieved our goals. It has been amazing to see the hand of the Lord in our lives as we have worked hard and been obedient. For sure we are going to see baptisms here in the future, not because of me or elder medina, but because the Lord is in command of the work and everything that has happened has been a blessing from Him.
So another interesting thing that is happening that maybe ya´ll don´t know is that us missionaries have gotten some interesting council from our mission president to start a food storage for ourselves. We all have to go to the store today and buy some food that will last for the next few weeks. Why? because all the truck drivers in the country are going to stop transporting goods starting today. They are in protest against Dilma, the president of the country. So it should be interesting to see how that all goes down. But don´t worry, we´ll be fine. God provides for us missionaries.
Oh! I almost forgot to explain the header of the email. So christmas has officially begun here. We have started sharing christmas messages with members as a mission to get more references and start to get everyone in the spirit of the season. They don´t have thanksgiving so its rather easy to do :) We are also listening to christmas music and palmas is super festive always with decorations and its all getting set up early! Woohoo! Christmas! So let mom play her christmas music because I am sure she is dying to play it already :) haha. Love you all! Next week I will be writting from brasilia because we are going down for a trainning sunday night. So I am sure this week is going to be great! Love you all, have a great week and spread the christmas spirit by spreading the love of christ in every moment!
com amor, Elder Patterson
