Politics...April 18, 2016

Hi family.

So wow... Let me just say that this week was a little more full politics than I would have liked... So I don´t know how informed the US is on everything going down here in the government, but it´s pretty crazy. And it´s even crazy to be in the middle of it it all because it´s all happening here before our eyes! ha. So let me go back a little, this week we had lunch at the bishops house and his wife is like a city councilwoman and that is like a huge deal here. So while we were waiting for her to finish lunch she was watching the political channel. And everyone there in the the congress where giving their final talks about brasils president, Dilma... Really annoying. Imagine listening to c-span for about an hour but in portugues. Anywho, it finally came down to voting yesterday night to impeach the president and it went through, now she is out of here for at least 6 months until the voting of the senators (I think). Anyways, the government is a mess right now and we are all praying it gets better. (Don´t worry dad, everything is okay. No danger, no protests, nothing to crazy :) lol). But yeah, just a little update on what everyone has been talking about here...

But this week was a trying week for sure. Not because of school or anything like that. That was actually really cool how that all worked out. I have had hundreds of confirmations this week that I have made the right choice. So no one worry about that anymore. But it was a hard week because first of all, it was just incredibly hot. When it is hot, it´s hard to work. It drains your energy and the sun fries your brain. We definitely did our best though. Lots of our appointments we had set didn´t work out and lots of people weren´t there when we passed by, so it was rather frustrating for sure. And finally when Sunday came and we went out to get our investigators for church, none of them went. Why? Because sleeping or the the tv is more interesting the there salvation... Ugh. Most of them our youth, so we can´t complain to much, but still, at least when I was young I always went to church :) haha. Sorry for the rant, it´s just what happened this week.

HOWEVER, it wasn´t all bad by any means. We visited a recent convert family here and when we went we didn´t find them home, but we found another member of the family that we have met before but never taught. Anyways, we started talking to her (Rita) and she had just moved back to stay with her mom. Even better is that none of the missionaries had ever taught her. So what did we do? Taught the Restoration of course :) And she loved it. It was super funny because at the end we asked ´´what do you need to do to know that this message/church is true?´´ and she responded ´´I know it´s true already by what everyone in my family says.´´ I just thought to myself, ´´you don´t know it´s true yet, but you will know soon enough.´´ We were even able to mark a baptismal date with her for May. We are exciting for her and we know she has a lot of potential because her family is going to be way supportive.

Yesterday was also an awesome day. After church we met up with the youngmen and we did a division. I went with three of them and elder ribeiro went with three of them. It was such a blast. I love the young men here. They are studs and we just laughed and had a good time the whole afternoon visiting lots of people. They even set the goal to baptized 2 young men and they are taking us to all the houses of there friends :) Such good stuff. And two of the young men here are super awesome. William and Wellington. I always play the piano with william in the church and wellington is basically our ward mission leader because no one else is able be it. He isn´t offically because he is only 17, but he is helping us a lot. It was good to go out with them all yesterday because this week was pretty stressful and it was good to be able to feel that same love that comes from a group of young men of the church. I remembered all amazing times we had back in the 14th ward :) I sure do miss the young mens program and all the fun activities we used to do.

But anyways, the church is true as the sky is blue. The thing I want to end with today is that each night I took some time to ponder about our Heavenly Father and how he loves us. Our little apartment has a balcony and I sure used it this week :) At night I sat outside enjoying some cool air looking at the night sky. It´s truly wonderful to see the creations God has made. Worlds without end. I thought of how truly small we are but how truly full and infinite is God´s love for us is. I for sure felt God´s love this week and I know he loves each of us more than we can know. I love each of you all as well and am praying continually for you all. Have a great week and choose the right!!!

com amor, Elder Patterson
